An Xray might help: Tailbone pain could mean a sprain, dislocation or fracture. The most prudent thing to do is to be examined (hands on) and possibly an xray depending on exam findings.

See below. : Best is a digital exam. As far as an x-ray, if it doesn't change the diagnosis or treatment, don't X-ray it. Essentially this can't be casted. Activity should be self limited due to level of discomfort. See your Dr. As far as medical treatment. By your description it doesn't sound serious enough for surgical treatment. If fractured, it could take as long as 6 wks to heal, pending your activity.
