Article evaluation: "Association of paediatric inflammatory bowel disease w other immune-mediated diseases.Kappelman MD, et al, Arch Dis Child. 2011 Nov; 96(11):1042-6." Compared to children w/o ulcerative colitis, # of children w ulcerative colitis who had diabetes was 2.7X greater. Overall, 2% already HAD diabetes. However, the# DEVELOPING diabetes was not studied, & conclusions do not necessarily apply to adults.
