A member asked:

What is the difference between a past medical history and a late effect?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Past Medical History: (strictly speaking) includes resolved medical problems and completed operations or other significant procedures. Late effects generally refer to problems that arise after a medical or surgical problem appears to have resolved. Example: if you had an appendectomy &, recovered, but months later scar tissue formed that caused intestinal blockage, the blockage would be considered a "late effect."
