A member asked:

What causes period blood to be really dark red?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Normal: Cycle flow, if not heavy is blood that has clotted inside the uterine cavity, then the clot dissolves, prior to passing through cervix, dark blood. If clots are passing prior to dissolving this indicates a heavy faster flow, not normal. Bright red blood can also be a sign of flow that is too heavy or rapid.
