A member asked:

Took morning after pill last week. period due next week. gush of dark red blood from vagina for 1hr and then stopped bleeding. what may be the cause ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hormonal imbalance: The morning after pill may cause irregular bleeding due to change in hormone levels. Menstrual irregularities are not uncommon and anovulatory cycle is a common cause. If you miss more than two periods it would be time to see your doctor. If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time. You may consider implanted contraceptive or an IUD.
