A member asked:

I have had dark red and brown period blood the whole week. is it normal or what could cause it? conception/sex on the 1st of august. i got my period the 10th and took a pregnancy test the 16th which was negative could i still be pregnant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Pregnancy unlikely: Having a normal, regular menstrual period means a woman is not pregnant... meaning she doesn't have to do a pregnancy test. That being said, a home urine pregnancy is very accurate by 3 weeks after sex, 1 week after missing a regular period, or 1 week after starting a "weird" period. If worried, one can check another home urine test one week after the first test.
