A member asked:

How are cholesterol and total cholesterol values different?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

None: A cholesterol profile contains several measurements, and calculations. First measurement is total cholesterol, often shortened to just "cholesterol level" also measured are triglycerides and hdl. These 3 are then used to calculate the LDL (bad cholesterol). Additional fractionations of the lipids may be done, too.
