Rib fractures: Time. It takes about 6 weeks for fractures to heal. Adequate pain control while still painful is important to adequately take deep breaths. Then majority of the pain should subside in 2-3 weeks.

Time: Giving them time and trying to stay reasonably comfortable is about all you can do for most rib fractures. Thankfully, the vast majority of them do go on to heal, but it can be a painful process to go through.
