My daycare providers son tested positive for the flu on tuesday, he took tamiflu that same night. wednesday his fever is gone. are my children ok to go thursday? they are 5, 2, and 2 months. we have had our flu shots, i was pregnant when i had mine.

Troublesome issue: Those with flu are likely shedding the virus for a minimum of a week, whether or not they are on Tamiflu (oseltamivir). There are flu strains circulating in the country that the vaccine will not prevent.I find it risky if the day care providers son is around your kids so soon. If he is not, there is less risk.

Mgt: This year's flu vaccine did not provide as much protection as in previous years. Your two month old is particularly susceptible, so I would wait five days before sending them back to daycare. If your five year old is in school and not in contact with the daycare provider's son, then it should be fine to send him to school.
