How harmful for your health is it to drink before knee surgery?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Richard Pollard answered

Specializes in Anesthesiology

Risky: The alcohol intake is a major concern in two types of patients. Obviously the alcoholic in one, but the other is the one who has drunk the night before surgery. Alcohol is essentially a dehydrating agent. This is to say your blood volume is lower than normal after alcohol. When we induce anesthesia we lower the patient's blood pressure . This is made worse by alcohol. Try without before surgery.
