It depends: Levels of thyroid hormone need to be monitored to ensure that you are on the correct amount of thyroid replacement (levothyroxime). Dosages of the medication need to be adjusted depending upon the results of the tests. Sometimes, the amount of thyroid replacement needed changes for no apparent reason. The condition can correct itself, but many times people have to take medication all their lives
