After genioplasty, how long does it generally take the bone to heal? i've read guidelines that differ drastically. some sources say 2 months but i've also read a year??

HEALTHY BONE: heals in 6-8 weeks after a FRACTURE but bone surgery may take longer since surgery may involve union of two surgically "CREATED" bone fragments. Hope this helps P.S Your surgeon should be able to tell you about the time needed for example if a bone is used for WEIGHT BEARING the recovery time can be 10-12 months!!!! Dr Z

Bone heals in phases: bone heals in stages. First healing takes place with formation of a callous, mostly of soft tissue. Gradually over the next few months there is infiltration of bone cells that starts new bone which is less dense than mature bone. Maturation takes place over next few months. About 4to 6 months for the whole process.
