24 hour urine: 24 hour urine is collected to measure the amount of creatinine excreted in 24x60 minutes. This is then divided by the serum concentration of creatinine to estimate the volume of plasma cleared of creatinine in one minute. Creatinine clearance rate has mostly been replaced by estimated glomerular filtration rate, that requires only the measurement of serum creatinine.
