Upper respiratory: Many of our colds are viral infections and antibiotics will not help at all. Rest, ibuprofen, decongestants and plenty of fluid help most, along with time. If yo truly have a bacterial infection, the penicillin class or cephalosporin class are first line treatments, followed by macrolides like clarithromycin and azithromycin.
