A member asked:

Dx early dbl pneumonia 5 days ago, now done with antibiotics. is it okay to take a cough suppressant at night only?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Usually yes: If a person has no problem taking cough suppressants (such as Robitussin (guaifenesin) or other over-the-counter cough medicines) when she has no pneumonia, then she can use the same cough suppressants when she has a pneumonia. The otc meds are not strong. Her doctor can advise on the use of stronger or prescription cough suppressants.
