Is it rare to have to take a second ct scan with contrast because the contrast did not reach the lower left quadrant?

This is common.: When you drink contrast for a CT scan, it may take a long time for your intestines to get the contrast from the stomach to the rectum. Typically, CT scans are done 1 hour after you've begun drinking. This can be enough time to fill most of the bowel, but not all of it. Radiologist may request a 2nd scan if there is some question about the colon that wasn't answered on the 1st scan.
