Your Ob will Guide: One cause of itching late in pregnancy is Cholestasis of Pregnancy. It is usually diagnosed by measuring serum bile acids in your blood. If these are elevated, delivery is frequently recommended at 37 weeks because of an increased incidence of stillbirth. Without seeing your lab-work its not possible to know what your diagnosis is. Get OB to clarify: Slight elevation in liver enzyme for the first time, may not be the reason for their recommendation. What does the recent US show? How has been the antenatal screen and other tests? Recent trends in lower number of cesarean section in favor of vaginal delivery and water births may not be uniform for all regions, hospitals and OB groups. A discussion of the topic with your OB group may enlighten U.
