If there is something causing the spot (such as sports equipment), the cause can be removed. Sometimes, dry sensitive eczema patches look like reddish, slightly flaky areas. Also, tinea "ringworm" is a fungal skin infection that can look this way (the doctor can decide) and need an antifungal.
