Fracture: Depending on where the blood is coming from, you may need a root canal or a crown lengthening procedure before repairing your tooth. Some pain is typical from a fresh injury such as this but see a dentist to find out your options for repair.

Nerve damage: From your description it is llikely that the breakage of your tooth exposed the dental pulp. This tissue/organ occupies the core of each tooth. It contains sensory nerve fibers and when damaged or exposed can result in pain. If the tooth is repairable the injured pulp is removed and the pain relieved through a procedure called root canal therapy.
