See ortho specialist: Chronic pain that persists after full healing may be due to nerve damage, scar tissue, or in your situation, a foreign body reaction to the rod. This certainly deserves discussion with your orthopedic surgeon. With careful evaluation, the likely source of pain can be diagnosed.
