Yes: Although a clinical exam can diagnose a displaced meniscus, and be very suggestive of a non-displaced meniscus tear, the definative diagnosis other arthroscopic surgery is made by a quality mri. Hope that helps!

Yes: Mri can confidently show a tear of the meniscal root. This usually is at the posterior root of the medial meniscus, although the other meniscal roots can tear as well.
