Preventing Herpes.: Condoms will only protect you from herpes if the person you are sexually active with has the infection on their penis. This person may be contagious even when he has no sores. If he does not know where he was infected there is no test to determine this. Only if he has sores will anyone know what part of his body could be contagious.
