Any genital area inflammation, like herpes, can trigger bacterial vaginosis. It should respond to standard treatment, like metronidazole. As you may have found, genital herpes caused by HSV1 usually has infrequent recurrent outbreaks; the prednisone wasn't necessarily the reason, and sex doesn't trigger outbreaks either.
