Usually heartburn: The junction of the swallowing tube with the stomach is located just below the left of center of the rib cage and heart. Backwash of stomach contents can be unpredictable & painful. You can also get pain in the rib cage as it joins the breastbone, like a soar thumb. Heartburn can respond some to TUMS.
