Antihistamine med: Loratadine is an antihistamine so it will do nothing to help the cause of his sore throat. If you are concerned, then I would say not to give it. Your pediatrician should have made this assessment based on your child's age and weight. I would want to know 'what' is causing the sore throat -was a culture done? Other symptoms would be important such as fever or if others in the household are sick?

Wouldn't use it: I am curious why you think the kids throat is sore, since it is obviously too young to tell you. It may have mouth or throat irritation from any of a number of causes, & these generally respond to chilled drinks/foods. Chilled applesauce tastes like vanilla ice cream & is a good hydrator. Short answer-kid doesn't need this med.
