GI contrast related?: Diarrhea may reflect diet (check fiber intake), alterations in the population of healthy gut flora we each carry, food intolerances, maldigestion due to problems of the small intestine, pancreas, or biliary tree, changes in GI motility (how well your GI tract mixes & moves food along), various infections, & even irritable bowel syndrome. If persistent after evacuating consumed barium, see doctor.

Diarrhea: diarrhea after a barium swallow is not unusual. Often the diarrhea will appear white in color, similar to the barium which was ingested for the test. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids to remain well hydrated until the diarrhea resolves. Good luck.
