Two diff issues: TMJ issues involve problems with the actual joint which are not normally related to an infection. An infection of your tooth can be either endodontic or periodontal in nature, and will involve microorganisms. No swelling and no exudate does not imply no infection.

Apples to oranges: TMJ is a disorder marked by pain and tenderness in the TM joint where your lower jawbone meets your skull. TMD is considered a chronic pain syndrome. A crown with a crack, open margin or hole, leading to an infection underneath it. The tooth infection is considered an acute problem. These two items are compared that cannot be practically compared.
