Paronychia: Infection at the corner of a nail is called paronychia. If drainage continues, redness not spreading up the finger, no fever, pain not bad, and no red streak up the hand or arm, sit tight; it should go on to heal soon. Get care promptly if any of these other symptoms. Some cases are due to herpes (called herpes whitlow), but unlikely if you don't also have symptoms of new oral or genital herpes.
