Vaginal atrophy: After menopause the low estrogen level drops and the vaginal lining thins and looses its elasticity. It also looses moisture and lubrication becoming drier. There are vaginal lubricants available over the counter or prescription vaginal estrogens and oral hormonal products to help with this. Hope this helps

Physical examination of the vulva (external genitalia) may reveal clear reasons for pain including lesions, thin skin, ulcerations or discharge associated with vulvovaginal infections or vaginal atrophy. An internal pelvic exam may also reveal physical reasons for pain including lesions on the cervix
