A 24-year-old male asked:

is it true that pt like ultrasound, tens, laser expose the body to radiation? is it like x-ray? what is the approx dose from 10 visits?

Physical Therapy: uses non-ionizing radiation. Xray and CT are ionizing radiation, which you should seek to reduce exposure to whenever possible. However, ultrasound, TENS and laser use sound, electricity and light energy which are generally regarded as safe in these therapeutic amounts.

Are you confusing with PET scan ?

I believe the patient meant PT as in Physical Therapy, where they use therapeutic ultrasound, TENS and laser. It is exceedingly rare for someone to have more than a few PET scans. Certainly a 25 year old would be more likely to have 10 physical therapy TENS visits than 10 PET scans.

A lacy, red rash has broken out across part of my baby's body. Do I need to bring her to a doctor, or is there a way to treat the rash from home?

No: Generally a lacy red rash that is not itchy is associated with mild viral illness. If your child is not bothered by the rash, it is not likely to be dangerous.

What can I do if my abdominal ultrasound shows that my baby is in the breech position?

Dr. Robert Benner

Discuss your options: If the baby is breech at an early ultrasound, this has no significance. If it is in the last 3-4 weeks, then you have some choices to make. The baby can be turned to head down by a procedure called a version. This works about half the time. Some doctors will advise a c-section, and a few may even still offer a vaginal breech delivery depending on the circumstances. The baby might even turn itself!

How much do dental x-rays cost for a child?

It varies.: It depends on the kind of x-rays prescribed by the dentist. Full mouth x-rays cost more than bite-wings. A single radiograph is the least expensive but limited to just a few teeth. And x-rays on children usually cost less than adults.

If I had a body scan today, when can I restart taking my hormone medicine?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Vance Harris

Depends on hormones : I think that would depend on the type of hormone you are talking about and the scan you had. If you didnt get instructions then check with your doctor first. Did you have a thyroid scan? Was it a bone scan or a density scan?
