A member asked:

Went to pcp because my son was having back pain. x-rays showed nothing, so now an mri. pain on spine. what might they be looking for? worried.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Looking for anything: Hate to be vague, but the point of the MRI is to really see the spine at a detail that the xray can't. It shows disc space, bulging or herniated discs, masses, etc. The MRI is really THE test to have when evaluating back pain.Try to relax and remember that getting the test doesn't mean it is going to find anything wrong. All my best.
