Usually: At five months of symptoms you should get checked. I recommend seeing a neurologist. There are a number of good medications that can control the symptoms.

Maybe.: Unless you are a moderate to heavy drinker, a neuropathy from alcohol use is uncommon. Were you injured? Nerve damage from alcohol can be related to vitamin deficiencies due to excessive drinking. Any new change in function or sensation should be thoroughly evaluated to determine the cause. If the cause is treatable, sometimes the nerve can recover but it can take up to a year to do so.
