Not part of puberty: depends as well on where is that lymph node, if in the neck, not that big, non tender, soft, it can just be secondary to throat infection, if he is otherwise healthy. Better off, get him checked by his physician, routine checks during adolescence scans his health for other measures during start of puberty and the several changes affecting his body and his psyche as well, good luck

Not pubertal: Solo or several enlarged nodes are usually reflective of a local process. Irritation of the scalp, a local bug bite, etc.Nodes are usually pea sized ; run a 3-4 week cycle of enlarging when stimulated, processing their irritant and returning to resting size. If continuing to enlarge, painful or persisting in an enlarged size after 3-4 wks, they need eval.
