Not a common finding: One of the side effects of Brintellix is Low sodium,especially in elderly.Most of the serotonergic anti depressants produce low sodium.Sodium level should be checked prior to initiation of treatment & frequently after.

Hyponatremia: should be avoided in general. The manufacturers of Brintellix warn this agent should not be used if you have this condition. In 2013 they issued a warning that all Serotonergic agents can cause SIADH (Syndrome of inappropriate antidiuretic hormone release). As it turns out many agents can lower serum sodium levels. Some degree of reduction is tolerated. Symptomatic Hyponatremia can produce seizure
