Distressing ...: I'm sorry I can't see the pain description from another questioner, but certainly degenerative joint disease/arthritis is a common cause of pain as we get older: deterioration of the discs/cushions with stiffness & strain of the supporting muscles. See doc for diagnostic eval, then rest, ice and/or heat, proper exercise/conditioning, pain/anti-inflamm meds, TENS, relaxation: multiple strategies!
