Clarify depression: diagnosis first. If there is a chance you inherited bipolar disease it would make sense to try a mood stabilizer first. If you are certain that you have unipolar or major depression I would go with an antidepressant. I always think in terms of other issues (problems gaining weight, anxiety and allergy perhaps in your case). Best do this under the supervision of a caring physician. Bon chance !
