Bad oral health: is usually the main reason, so a trip to the dentist is defiantly in order. However there can be other causes as well. If a tooth/mouth problem is ruled out then other things to look for include sinus infection/congestion and food allergies. Your medical doctor should be able to help you with these kind of issues and refer you to an ear nose and throat doctor and/or allergist if indicated.

Oral Hygiene: While there is a host of both dental & medical causes of bad breath, the vast majority of patients have bad breath simply from the fact that they do not brush and floss either properly or often enough. This results in the accumulation of plaque & later calculus, cavities, gum infections and more. For a more thorough list of causes: http://smilesapartcosmeticdentist.com/fresh-breath-control.htm
