At what age are people classified as adults? is that when you should stop seeing a pediatrician?

Adults: this depends on what whether you are asking from a medical or social standpoint. In pediatric offices, the age at which pediatricians transition care to an adult doctor can be at 18 years old or 21 years old. This is dependent on the pediatric practice. In my practice, I see young adults through age 21.

18: The majority of adult specialties do not see anyone under age 18, which has evolved over time for insurance liability and other reasons. Some internists I know will accept kids as early as 15, most peds will see kids until 18-21. I kid should stop seeing a pediatrician when they don't consider their physician patient connection important. That could be at 10 or 20.
