Wrong cells: In polycythemia [ increased red cells] can ocur for a number of reasons. you are at risk for complications of whatever disorder caused the increase in RBCs. Conditions such as, pulmonary fibrosis, at times COPD a connection between the great vessels of the body, a vascular shunt, some drug reactions, and true polycythemia in which the bone-marrow makes too many RBCs.
