Change exercise: You can change your exercises, rest, use ice, and use braces for a time. Also, a joint injection may help. You should probably see a doctor if it is persistent.

Injection sometimes: If first line treatments fail some patients benefit from injection of concentrated platelets (provided from your own blood) into the damaged tendon. The effectiveness of this treatment, however, is still under investigation and insurance often does not pay for it. Still, it may be worthwhile to look into if surgery becomes the only other alternative.
