A member asked:

Would doctors insert grommets in the ears of a child with a general anesthetic or local anesthetic?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

General: The need for the patient to lie completely still during the procedure makes general anesthetic the most common way to do kid tubes. Years ago,I saw it done under deep sedation with iontophoretic numbing of the ear drum during research work, but the process is more risky.I wouldn't want it done that way today.
