Beneficial to Wait: Breastmilk or formula is recommended for the first six months of life; both provide a nutritionally complete and reliably clean food source. Introduction of solid foods should begin at 6 months of age. Evidence shows infants exclusively breast-fed the first 6 months of life had milder illness from digestive and respiratory tract diseases. Hence it is beneficial to wait until your son is 6 mos old.

Introduce rice : cereal to a baby who is 4-6 months old, weighs 14-16 lbs., takes 32 oz. of formula or nurses 8-10 times/day & has enough head, neck & body strength to sit & turn toward a spoon when hungry & turn away when full. To increase acceptance, offer single-ingredient puréed vegetables, then meats before sweet fruits. See: healthychildren.org for tips on feeding, growth & development.
