Reactions are unique: What we are learning is that each individual reacts uniquely to different medications. Your and your sister's reaction is paradoxical, in that Celexa (citalopram) tends to reduce anxiety. So you might try Welbutrin, although that tends to be activating. When I have patients using Welbutrin, I generally ask the prescribing psychiatrist to add Clonazepam (Klonopin) if there are high levels of anxiety as well.

NO: Usually people with anxiety D/O's are more sensitive to side effects. Antidepressants that modulate anxiety (Wellbutrin (bupropion) is not one of them) need to be started and up titration at much smaller dosages. I.e. Citalopram 50mg and in some people 2mg, then gradually medicine is tolerated better. Good luck and feel better.
