Hi, im thinking of becoming a research doctor, i would like to know if its really what it sounds like, long work hours, irregular private life and income?

Depends: While it can be a long road (sometimes as long as 15+ years from highschool ~ undergrad, med school, residency, etc). And yes while it can sometimes be long hours it can also be a very rewarding career. It all depends on what you enjoy and what path you choose to pursue. I hope this helps.
