Fordyce granules: You are describing Fordyce granules. Fordyce granules do not usually wax and wane like herpes labialis (aka fever blisters). Herpes labialis has a prodral tingly different sensation on the lips before the blisters form. Herpes labialis forms fluid filled blisters that rupture and takes about 2 weeks to heal. Fordyce granules do no blisterand are not painful. They are simply ectopic sweat glands
