A member asked:

What is the chance of hiv from working as an or assistant with no "known"/ "felt" needle sticks. is this just paranoia? or should it be a concern

Doesn't happen: This simply isn't happening. HIV conversions among health care worker are reported and studied with great interest and we're simply not seeing an increased risk in folks who work around blood. The virus is very fragile, intact skin seems to be an impenetrable barrier to it, mucosa seems to need to be roughed-up by sex before it can be penetrated. Enjoy your work and stop worrying.
