A psychiatrist helps: OCD (obsessive-compulsive) or anxiety symptoms need psychiatric treatment, generally with medications and talk therapy. One can see her primary care doctor for starting treatment and referral recommendations. The HIV is not the problem here, because if there were no HIV, such a patient would just hang on to another disorder, such as Zika virus, brain cancer, or mad cow disease. Treatment helps.

Illness Anxiety: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or CBT very useful for your anxiety over HIV. If you are taking universal precautions in the OR, the likelihood that you will be infected is extremely low. You should also consider that there may be stress and other factors in your life outside of work that are contributing to this worry. Believe in yourself that you will overcome this. Find good therapist.Good luck.
