Injury with used and contaminated injection equipment has been known for 40 years to be a theoretical way to become infected with HIV or other blood borne infection, like hepatitis B or C. However, there has never been a reported case where it actually happened and you're not likely to be the first. If you encounter used syringes or needles, handle them carefully. Otherwise don't worry about it.
