Hard to say, but...: ....Ears can hurt without an infection that can be treated by an antibiotic. Sometimes it's from pressure, and then when your ears pop after yawning or swallowing you feel better. Sometimes children have something called referred pain. This is when the thing that hurts is ok, but something nearby isn't. For instance, a child might have ear pain from a throat or a bad tooth.
