Throat clearing: Throat clearing can be the first sign of asthma in a child. Cough is a very common symptom of asthma. In a study in bout 58% of those children had not been diagnosed with asthma. Half of the undiagnosed children underwent tests of lung function, and the results showed that those youngsters did, in fact, have asthma. Source is: new england journal of medicine 2003;348:1502.
